Acer to end notebook partnership with Inventec in 2011

Acer will exclude Inventec as a notebook OEM partner in 2011, ending their three-year cooperation as the two companies were unable to reach a consensus on various OEM details, according to sources from notebook players.
Inventec declined to comment, but noted that the company is currently still shipping notebooks to Acer regularly.
Although Inventec will lose notebook orders from Acer, the company is expected to receive a small volume of additional orders from Japan-based Fujitsu in 2011.
For 2011, Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Toshiba will be the two largest clients of Inventec, with Fujitsu and Dell also outsourcing a small portion of orders to the company.
Acer''s strategy of making frequent adjustments to its outsourcing orders contradicts Inventec''s business culture, and Acer''s demand that Inventec take full responsibility for the recall of Acer''s 13.3-inch ultra-thin notebooks in 2009 also caused an uncomfortable feeling between the two, putting the partnership already at a high risk of breaking up, the sources noted.
With Inventec stepping out, Acer is reportedly considering either Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) or Pegatron Technology as replacements.
