Sales of large-size LCD driver ICs were stronger compared with small-size products in February 2010 thanks to demand from the LCD TV segment, according to market sources. Large-size LCD driver IC maker Novatek Microelectronics saw its February revenues drop 8.53%, while small-size driver IC maker Orise Technology posted a 23.8% revenue decline for February.
Novatek and Orise have reported revenues of NT$2.66 billion (US$83.42 million) and NT$330 million, respectively, for February.
Orise is expected to see revenues pick up in March on gradually increasing demand from first-tier handset vendors. Revenues in first-quarter 2010 are likely to see a slight sequential growth, the sources noted.
Taiwan-based LCD driver IC designers are facing pressure due to price hikes from backend houses but also seeing increased market demand. They are not concerned about short-term declines in ASPs, added the sources.
