David Voigts of Electrolux Home Care Products

With an extensive history in product research and development, it is fitting that after more than 25 years with floor care manufacturer Electrolux Home Care Products, David Voigts has been named vice president of product development.First hired in 1981 as product coordinator with the company, Voigts worked at only one other company after graduating from Illinois State University (Normal, Illinois, U.S.) with a Bachelor of Science in business administration before finding his home with Electrolux Home Care, headquartered in Bloomington, Illinois, U.S. While at Electrolux, Voigts has held several positions, including assistant manger of Product Planning, director of Product Planning, vice president of Product Development and Sourcing, and prior to his promotion, vice president of Product Management.In his extensive history with Electrolux Home Care, Voigts says his entire career has collectively been most rewarding. ? have had experiences here that I never would have dreamed of as a young man only a few years out of school,? Voigts tells APPLIANCE. ?orking with my suppliers and colleagues has not only improved my business life, but also has helped me grow personally.?And although his career has been positive, Voigts says some experiences with the company were unexpected and challenging, but ultimately added to his positive association with Electrolux Home Care.One such time, Voigts says, was earlier this decade. ? don? believe it is an industry secret that we struggled as a company in 2003 and 2004. We came off years of good success and hit a tough time in those years,? he explains. ?e have put in place a team that is not only dedicated to the success of the company, but also makes for an enjoyable place to work. We are staying the course of doing the right things to turn a challenging time into a success. It is often as simple as that.?Voigts says it is his experiences?oth rewarding and challenging?hus far that have helped prepare him for his new role with Electrolux Home Care. ? have learned a lot from all the people I have worked with. It may sound clich?, but people do make all the difference.?In his new position, Voigts? responsibilities include new product engineering, rapid prototyping, in-home and laboratory testing, electrical listings with Underwriters Laboratories, and the maintenance and improvement of existing products. Looking to the future, Voigts says his ?ands-on? management style has helped prepare him for success as he looks first to be involved and understand opportunities or challenges and then take action.?he challenge for the future is the same as it has always been?e successful in this extremely competitive industry,? he explains. ?loor care is not for the faint of heart. We have a lot of good competitors in this industry and everyday we are working to find opportunities to surpass them.?When he isn? busy working at his figurative second home at Electrolux Home Products, Voigts spends his spare time at his real second home on a lake in Central Illinois, U.S., where he and his wife enjoy weekends boating and swimming.
